In the 1950s, the Mercedes-Benz W188 300S Coupé was by far the most luxurious car on the market and had a quality you could say you loved. The W188 300S came in several body styles, including the coupé, convertible and roadster and was a variant of the world-famous Adenauer. This series was first presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1951. Although the model was named the 300 S, it was not until 1972 that Mercedes-Benz began offering models as part of the S-Class. A total of 560 examples were built, 216 of which were coupés, like the one we offer here. Weighing 1,740 kg and with a powerful 150 hp engine, the car reached a top speed of 175 km/h.The W188 was built entirely by hand and was the first car with power-assisted brakes, making it a car that was really only suitable for the rich and famous of the time. Some famous owners included the founder of Haribo, Hans Riegel, Aga Khan and actor Gary Cooper, so owning a W188 placed you in good company. The engine starts immediately, runs very quietly and responds immediately to the accelerator pedal.
