Description

"Das beste oder Nichts" still remains Mercedes-Benz's slogan and with this 300 S it is absolutely spot on. In the 1950s, the Mercedes-Benz W188 300S Coupé was by far the most luxurious car on the market and had a quality you could say you loved. The W188 300S came in several body styles, including the coupé, convertible and roadster and was a variant of the world-famous Adenauer. This series was first presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1951. Although the model was named the 300 S, it was not until 1972 that Mercedes-Benz began offering models as part of the S-Class. A total of 560 examples were built, 216 of which were coupés, like the one we offer here. Weighing 1,740 kg and with a powerful 150 hp engine, the car reached a top speed of 175 km/h.The W188 was built entirely by hand and was the first car with power-assisted brakes, making it a car that was really only suitable for the rich and famous of the time. Some famous owners included the founder of Haribo, Hans Riegel, Aga Khan and actor Gary Cooper, so owning a W188 placed you in good company. The W188 was also loved by royalty, but more on that later. This type of Mercedes was often chosen in a classy and understated color scheme, and this 300 is no exception. A very chic green color with beautiful green leather upholstery. A beautiful appearance that perfectly matches the stately appearance of this Mercedes-Benz. Even before you see the car in real life, you can tell from the extensive documentation that this car has been in the hands of the right people.A Mercedes-Benz 300 S coupé is a very special car, but this example has an even more special story. In 1953, this 300 S was delivered to the Dutch royal family and was owned by Queen Wilhelmina. This Mercedes recently underwent restoration and overhaul work, making it a very good and beautiful copy. The exterior looks truly stunning. With care, some of the old paint was removed and repainted in the original color scheme, with attention to detail. To preserve the authentic elements, it was chosen to keep and restore the original chrome and trim with the car. The body makes a very good impression and this also applies to the underside of the car. In the interior we find beautiful green leather upholstery. The whole is very well cared for and original. The leather upholstery has recently been reupholstered as well as the carpets and both the instrument panel and the beautiful steering wheel are very clean and authentic. This Mercedes is also technically very good due to recent overhaul work. The large three-liter six-cylinder engine produces a comfortable 150 horsepower and is controlled via the shift lever on the steering wheel. The engine starts immediately, runs very quietly and responds immediately to the accelerator pedal. Driving the 300S, known as one of the most exclusive and expensive cars the brand has ever built, is a regal experience. The car handles, brakes and steers exactly as you would expect from a car of this caliber. Interested in this fantastic Mercedes-Benz with royal history?
